Bitumen Export

bituumen solid mineralWhat It Is and What Export of It Is

Bitumen is a black, sticky, and highly viscous liquid or semi-solid form of petroleum. It occurs naturally or is produced during the distillation of crude oil. Nigeria holds significant deposits of natural bitumen (tar sands), especially in Ondo, Lagos, Edo, and Ogun states. Nigeria’s bitumen reserves are estimated at over 42 billion barrels, making it the 6th largest in the world.

Exporting bitumen from Nigeria involves mining, heating (for liquefaction), filtration, packaging or containerization, and transport to global construction and industrial markets.
